Traditionally the method used by sewing machines to assure the correct amount of thread was dispensed to form a stitch was passing the thread through a pair of static tension plates. The new Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond Deluxe uses a set of rollers that measure and correctly portion the amount of thread dispensed, based on the stitch selected and the thickness of the fabric under the presser bar. This has also been applied to embroidery by using the sensor Q foot to sense the thickness of the embroidery. This new foot is used instead of the more traditional floating embroidery foot and gives remarkable results for specialty embroidery such as thread velvet.
